It is in their honor that the city got its Roman name Curicum (Splendissima civitas Curictarum = Glorious city Krčana, an inscription found on an ancient tombstone from the 4th century). Be sure to visit

Frankopan Castle: Located on the Kamplin square. Throughout history, the castle played an important role in the defense of the city, and today is used for cultural manifestations.

Cathedral: Along with the Frankopan Castle it is the most distinctive motif of Krk. It is an early Christian basilica built in the 5th century on the site of Roman baths.

The city walls and streets: The core of the city is outlined by defense walls and within them are intertwined typical narrow streets of the Croatian coast, where one feels peace and the spirit of old times even at the height of the season. The structure of the walls is uneven because some parts were constructed in different periods. The earliest and most valuable information about the walls was found in 1848, during the demolition of the walls near the former town hall, and is an inscription carved in a rough piece of limestone.

Gorgeous sea, clear water, great for swimming and snorkelling. Nice old town with marble alleys and surprise squares. Restaurants and bars all good, lovely seafood and good local wine. Not many English people there (a good thing) but waiters and shop staff have good spoken English in general. Didn''t seem expensive.
The town is small, and you may have to queue for a restaurant in the evening. It feels like it could do with 2 or 3 more places to cope with demand in high season.
