Motovun

Tourist destination info Motovun

Motovun is a town in central Istria, located on top of a steep hill that dominates the Mirna River, with a staircase of 1052 steps leads up to it. It is attractive because of its medieval atmosphere (the walls in the shape of a ring and two half rings) with a view spreading over vineyards and fields of the Motovun forest, which belong in the category of Forest Parks. It is very close to the most visited tourist cities of the Adriatic Porec, Rovinj and Umag. It is a favorite excursion destination for tourists, but also the center of congress and cultural tourism - this is the headquarters of the International Research Centre for Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages and the International Center of Anthropological Sciences (ICAM). Motovun hosts a traditional film festival at the end of July that has become an integral part of the Croatian cultural offer. During the summer there is also an international summer school of architecture and an international summer school of health. The Motovun forest is a habitat for underground mushrooms called truffles that are extracted with the help of specially trained dogs. In the summer and during early autumn black truffles grow, whereas in late autumn and winter, the most delicious and most expensive Istrian white truffles grow. Truffle and many other specialties can be found in restaurant "Kastel”, restaurant "Mcotic" tavern "Pod Voltom" and pizzeria "Taverna". As for night life and entertainment you will find a better offer in the surrounding towns of Umag, Porec, Rovinj ...

Umag is both a town and a harbor on the northwest coast of Istria. This town is referred to as the town of tourism and sports because it has been the host of the ATP tournament for years and has welcomed numerous tennis stars.

Porec is one of the most important tourist destinations in Istria. Visit its historical sites: North tower, Pentagonal tower, medieval walls and the Eufrasian basilica. We recommend you visit natural beauties such as Baredine pitch, Mark pitch, Pincin pitch and the group of trees around the church of St. Ana near Cervar. For those in search of sports and recreation, there is the possibility of diving, sailing, water skiing, hiking, cycling, hunting, paintball and many other activities.

Rovinj is a small city located on the western coast of Istria. It is rich with historical landmarks, of which we recommend the following: Old Town, City Walls and Gates, Church of St. Euphemia, Baptistry of the Holy Trinity, Franciscan Monastery, the castle on the island of St. Andrew and Dvigrad. Apart from its historical landmarks, Rovinj is rich with natural beauty, as well. Be sure to visit sights such as Limska Draga, the Rovinj islands and coastal region, “Zlatni Rat” Forest Park, “Fantazija” quarry, “Palud” marsh and the Dvije Sestrice islands.
