Sali (island of Dugi otok)

Tourist destination info Sali (island of Dugi otok)

Sali is a tourist town on Dugi Otok with a thousand year old history of fishing. Although it is the largest town on the island, Sali is really just a small town with 3 restaurants, 4 stores, 1 hotel, a pastry shop, post office and municipality. It is full of cultural and sacral heritage from the early Christian centuries. See the parish church of St. Mary, church of St. Rocco and church of St. Nicholas. The town is surrounded by hills, fields, small and large bays (the largest and most popular is the Telašćica Nature Park), coves and islets. The beaches are mainly rocky, but there is a beautiful sandy beach on the north side of the island called Saharun. The town has well developed excursion, nautical and sports tourism. Because of its near vicinity to the Kornati National Park and Telašćica Nature Park, it is a Mediterranean style town and is perfect for nature lovers. Those who enjoy sports and recreation can take part in cycling, basketball, small field soccer, volleyball, bocce ball, scuba diving and numerous other activities. Throughout the summer, the town hosts various festivities such as the Sali Cultural summer (held every Thursday with Dalmatian evening, play, choir concert or traditional cuisine), Sali festival (cultural and entertainment festivity held on the first weekend in August), “Fishermenr’s Evening” (cooking and selection of the best stew, tuna grilling, sardines and other seafood), Sali evening (illumination of the port, boats and ships and entertainment in the center of the town with Croatian live music), “Donkey races” (the fastest donkeys are awarded, after which there is an entertainment program) and others. Those who wish to enjoy Dalmatian and island cuisine can do so in the following restaurants: “Kornat”, “Tamaris”, “Kod Stipe” and “Marin”. Sali is the perfect place for those who enjoy the ambiance of a quiet fishing town. While in Sali, do not forget to visit well known tourist destinations such as Zadar and Nin.
