Stari Grad - island Hvar

Tourist destination info Stari Grad - island Hvar

Stari Grad is a historical town located on the northwestern part of the island of Hvar, also named ancient Faros. More precisely, it is situated on the place of a deep sea bay. Because of its idyllic location, it is a perfect place to take long walks in and explore the most attractive island of the Adriatic. The town has a lot of beautiful beaches where you can enjoy sunbathing, swimming or simply relaxing in the shade of the hundred-year-old pine trees. Some of the attractive beaches in Stari Grad are the Lanterna beach (made of a pebble cove and paved squares), Maslinica beach (sandy cove near the ferry dock), Banj beach (made of a pebble parts and paved squares), hotel beach (the bathing place contains a pebble cove and concrete squares), as well as beaches paklena, Zavala, Baba and Zukova (these beaches are located on a peninsula which closes the Stari Grad bay). Stari Grad is rich with historical sites which testify to its long and rough past. Visit the remains of a mosaic built into the sidewalk, remains of the roman summer houses, St. Ivan church 8the oldest and most valuable monument of Stari Grad), fort ( fortified villa of the poet Petar Hektorovic, built in 1520 with numerous inscriptions in Croatian and Latin), St. Stjepan church (built in 17th and 18th century), Dominican monastery (built in 1482, old archives and books, as well as the collection of paintings, statues, numismatic collection and fossil collection are kept here), St. Jerolim church, marine collection as well as many other sites. Sports and active vacation lovers can relax by practicing water sports, underwater fishing, basketball, football, beach volleyball, panoramic flights and countless other activities. Be sure to visit

Hvar is an ancient city with a rich history and the greatest number of sunny days. It faces the sunny South side of the world on the island of the same name. Its name comes from the Greek name for Hvar, “Pharos.” In the city you can view various historical monuments of which we recommend the Fortica fortress, the Hvar cathedral, city theatre and the Franciscan monastery. This city is the center of the island’s tourism and it is one of the most preferred and most visited destinations on the entire Adriatic. Its most attractive characteristics are a warm, sunny climate, various accommodation offerings, sports and recreation, natural beauty, good culinary offer and an active night life.

Split is one of the best known and most visited tourist destinations on the Adriatic and the second largest city in the country.  It is an eternally young city which lives with a slow pace that is very easy to get accustomed to. This city is rich in historical monuments of which we recommend the following: Diocletian’s palace (the heart of the city), the Iron Gate, the statue of bishop Gregory of Nin, the cathedral of St. Duje, church of St. Francis, cathedral of St. Peter, the main court, city basement, St. Anne’s monastery and many others.

Trogir is located in Central Dalmatia. Its port is a favorite destination for boaters because of it favorable location and natural protection.” Its extraordinary historical heritage attracts many tourists. Witness its layered heritage: the Garagnin palace, North city gate, main city square, portal of Radovan, St. Lovre cathedral and many other historical monuments.

Split is located in the warmest area of the Adriatic. This eternally young city will wow you with its cultural heritage. See the heart of the city – Diocletian’s palace, promenade, Iron Gate, Gregory of Nin statue, Marjan Park and many other beauties of the city.

We were looking for peaceful vacation and we found it in Stari grad…
We liked the tourist offer in Stari grad, it is perfect for those who seek peaceful and frendly spots to enjoy the beauties of Hvar. We enjoyed the history and vibe of Stari grad, and nearness of all other attraction that Hvar offers. We went to excursion on Brac island by boat from Jelsa, which is nearby Stari grad, only 15min ride by car. Stari grad has a rich offer of stores, restaurants and gift shops. The beaches are amazing, we loved every one of them but Dubovica beach was our favorite. Stari grad is a right choice for those who want to expirience the real Hvar and want to go back home with unforgettable memories…
