Brist

Tourist destination info Brist

Brist is a small town located on the southernmost part of the Makarska Riviera, located 40km from the town of Makarska. It is situated between the sea and the mountain Biokovo, stretches along the seashore. The name Brist comes from the elm tree (Ulmaceae), and dates back to 1571, but the place is a lot older than numerous archeological findings state. The population has long been involved in fishing, agriculture and, more recently, tourism. Visit historical sites such as: medieval tomb in the shape of a crate (located in the old village, above the current town), baroque church of St. Margarita (built in the 15th century; an apsis has been preserved which contains the epitaphs of the Kacic family), St. Ante church (located along the coast, built in 1807, contains a big image of the Virgin Mary with St. Ante and St. Ivan), a complex of houses Miosic and Diana (date back to 18th century, they are protected cultural monuments), as well as numerous other historical monuments. Brist is suitable for a peaceful vacation on beautiful pebble beaches, in an authentic Dalmatian atmosphere, in the immediate proximity of the biggest tourist centers. Sports and active vacation lovers can enjoy football, volleyball, basketball, cycling, jogging and different water sports. If you would like to savor the specialties of Brist, visit the restaurant “Vila Lidus”.
