Gradac

Tourist destination info Gradac

Gradac is a tourist resort located near Makarska half way between Split and Dubrovnik. The population is involved in agriculture, fishing, olive growing and, more recently, tourism and catering. Even though the area of Gradac was inhabited in the ancient times, it was first mentioned as an urban settlement in 1649. Today it is a famous tourist destination with all the necessary catering and tourist facilities. A number of beautiful beaches are located in Gradac, where you can enjoy swimming, sunbathing or relaxing under the shade of the hundred-year-old pine trees. The most famous beach is Gornja Vala which is at the same time the longest beach on the Makarska Riviera. Numerous archeological findings have been discovered here, which testify to its past; from the roman age, Middle Ages all the way until the present. Visit the baroque church (located in Podaca, built in the 18th century), preromantic church of St. Ivan (located in Podace, built in the 12th century and holds valuable details of the period), and baroque church of St. Mihovil (built in 1852, with three marble altars and an old wooden statue of St. Roko, as well as a stone baptistery), stone fort (created in the 17th century around which there are remains of the authentic abandoned houses), as well as numerous other sites.  This town has an exceptional sports and recreation offer. This way, sports and active vacation lovers can enjoy tennis, table tennis, mini golf, water polo, fitness, diving, sailing, water skiing, jet-ski, beach volleyball, football, basketball and numerous other activities. All types of interesting excursions are available from Gradac, towards the inland as well as the surrounding islands. If you are willing to savor the specialties and delicacies of this region, visit the restaurants “Nicolo Polo” and “Marinero No 1”, as well as tavern “Nase malo misto”.
