Rogoznica

Tourist destination info Rogoznica

Rogoznica is a quiet Mediterranean town, whose center lies on a peninsula that is the former island of Koper, connected to the mainland by an artificial mound in the second half of the nineteenth century. Most of the island is covered with forests while the populated area is characterized by old stone houses reflecting the spirit of the old Mediterranean. The town is known as one of the most beautiful and safest ports, which is why boaters like to visit. The locals engage in farming, fishing and tourism.

Be sure to visit the cultural heritage of Rogoznica: church of St. Nicholas, church of St. John of Trogir, the parish church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Heaven, Our Lady of the Chapel and the remains of fortifications built by the French at the top of the town. It is believed that the Rogoznica field was a Greek colony Heraklea. Of natural phenomena, visit the salt lake called "Dragon's Eye." Rogoznica is known for its beautiful pebble, concrete and stone beaches where everyone can find their niche.

The town has its own marina, marina Frapa, situated in the Soline bay and owns 400 high class boat moorings. Sports lovers can enjoy numerous water sports, hiking and many other activities. Take a walk along the shore in the evening, visiting restaurants, bars and enjoy the fisherman’s night celebration in Rogoznica.

Did you know? ... According to legend, fisherman Ivan M. Bogović Tumburko, while catching fish around the Cape Peninsula Gradine in 1722, found a painting showing Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth. Locals along with then priest decided to build a chapel on that same place. The black measles epidemic in 1887 took up to 40 lives a day in Rogoznica. The faithful decided to put an end to this suffering, leave barefoot to the shrine of Our Lady, and from that day (24 January) people stopped dying and the sick were healed.

Be sure to visit

  • - Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Heaven: The original parish church of St. Nicolas, consecrated by the Bishop V. Arrigoni on May 11th, 1615. It was enlarged in 1683rd and given the name of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary to heaven.
  • - "Dragon's Eye" salt water lake - a natural phenomenon. The lake has a distinctive flora and fauna. Was created after the last ice age, about 10,000 years.

Entertainment:

  • - Fishermen's Night fishing festival which takes place in almost every Dalmatian town along the coast. With fish and wine, olive oil and bread, good music and traditional rhythms everyone is guaranteed to have fun.
  • - Night of Rogoznica traditionally held every year featuring an evening concert. We definitely recommend that you sit down at a nearby restaurant and enjoy the seafood.
  • - International Children's Festival in Šibenik – a unique cultural event of international proportions during which the city squares are surrendered to the children's imagination and to the development of all forms of children's artistic creativity.
  • - Evenings of Dalmatian chanson in Šibenik - event which gathers many klapa performers

Kastel Luksic is a very nice town, there are basic shops and bars. During the month of August they do a lot of concerts and festivals of all kinds. The beach is not very long, shingle but convenient (it&;lsq;uo;s also really close to the apartment) Nearby there are a few restaurants. A walk is in Kastel Kambelovac and is called Baletna Skola. Another is in Kastel Novi and the Intrada, very popular for dinner you have to book in advance. Also in Kastel Novi there well as Skullcap restaurant also good. The Kastela coast is 14 km long and is everything from supermarkets to pharmacies. If I can recommend a beach in addition to those of Kastela, I suggest you go on the island of Ciovo which is in front, and that is connected by bridges. Or the coast after Split (Split) towards Dubrovnik. The city of Split is 14 km from Kastel Luksic and is a must as well as Trogir also nearby. A bit &;lsq;uo;more distant to the north (the kilometers I do not remember) but always easily accessible, there is the city of Sibenik.
